Sejad Salihović's strike proved crucial as the hosts maintained their four-point lead over Turkey in the race for second place in Group 5.Salihović responseEmre Belözoğlu tested Nemanja Supić with an early shot which the goalkeeper managed to save, but the midfielder was luckier in the fourth minute, finishing from close range after Tuncay Sanlı's effort was blocked by Safet Nadarević. Turkey were pegged back 20 minutes later, however, with a foul on Samir Muratović 20 metres out giving Salihović the chance to rattle a free-kick past Volkan Demirel for his first international goal.
Strong positionWith Turkey coach Fatih Terim sent to the stands in the aftermath of that strike, Bosnia-Herzegovina sensed victory, and Servet Çetin did well to scoop Zvjezdan Misimović's shot off the line after the defender had been dispossessed by the VfL Wolfsburg winger. Zlatan Muslimović and Edin Džeko had further chances after the break, as did Arda Turan for Turkey. The result means a win in Estonia on 10 October would guarantee Bosnia-Herzegovina a top-two finish regardless of Turkey's result in Belgium.
